Our Sustainability Packaging Commitment

Sustainability at the Core of Our Business

At Lightning Packaging, we believe packaging can do more than protect products - through design, value engineering and circular principles it can play a part in supporting the move toward a sustainable future. That’s why sustainability is not an add-on to our business, but a fundamental principle guiding decisions we make.

Smarter Packaging, Less Waste

sustainability packaging suppliers for a sustainable future

Our customers want packaging that’s right-sized, recyclable, and responsible. We’re eliminating unnecessary materials, reducing excess space, and optimising packaging to be as lightweight as possible without compromising on protection.

This not only minimises waste, but can also reduce carbon emissions in storage and transport.

When additional packaging is required, we carefully select materials, types, and weights to balance product safety with environmental responsibility.

Every design decision is focused on maximising performance while minimising impact.

Designed for Circularity

We’re making recycling simple and accessible by:

  • Increasing the proportion of recyclable content in our packaging.

  • Phasing out hard-to-recycle materials.

  • Offering packaging that’s easy to separate and process through existing recycling streams.

EPR, EUDR & Carbon Efficiency Compliance Services

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

EPR is a UK packaging reform that makes producers financially responsible for the full lifecycle of the packaging they place on the market, including recovery, processing, recycling and disposal.

This initiative helps reduce packaging’s environmental impact and encourages producers to design products that are easier and more cost-effective to recycle through modulated fees.

EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) – Overview

EUDR is part of the EU’s strategy to protect global forests and reduce carbon emissions. It introduces mandatory due diligence for EU businesses, expanding and eventually replacing the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR).

Unlike the EUTR, EUDR covers more commodities and requires operators to ensure their supply chains are truly deforestation-free, not just legally sourced.

Our Carbon Strategy

As part of our parent group, we have adopted SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) approved targets that include scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions and our net zero strategy.

Due to the scale of our business, our targets include both absolute reduction targets and engagement targets, working across our supply chain to ensure our largest suppliers set ambitious carbon reduction targets of their own.
